Talking to a trained counsellor can help you understand more about yourself and what is happening in your life. I offer non-judgemental support rather than advice, enabling you to develop insight into your problems. Counselling is based on talking, and the respectful, trusting relationship which develops between the client and the counsellor. The Services page explains more about what I offer.
A bit about me
My name is Anita and I work as an integrative counsellor/psychotherapist. I am an accredited counsellor with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and a Registered Independent Counsellor with the United Kingdom Register of Counsellors (UKRC). I am also a qualified Supervisor. Accredited counsellors have completed several years work with clients and their practice has been rigorously assessed by the BACP as having reached a proficient level. I adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice under supervision, and attend regular training and workshops to maintain my continuing professional development.
I have spent my working life helping people face adversity. I initially trained as a registered nurse and, following that, worked as a district nurse for many years. I frequently worked with people dealing with illness, loss and bereavement. A growing interest in the link between our thoughts and emotions and our physical bodies, and an awareness that problems in one side are often reflected in the other, led me into the field of counselling and psychotherapy.
I highly value developing therapeutic relationships with my clients and enabling them to share their most painful and intimate experiences. I hope that the clients I collaboratively work with will grow and develop from the experience.
Helping you move on
Many people spend their life trying to avoid facing painful and distressing events and memories from their past. Counselling provides an opportunity to explore, in a safe environment, thoughts and feelings about both inner and outer life. New understanding about the past can often lead to positive change. See my Testimonials page for comments from my previous clients.
The process of counselling will help you to develop new coping skills and methods for facing challenges including life changes, relationships and work issues.
Counselling is concerned with relationships as well as personal awareness and growth. It looks at ways we communicate with one another and helps us to be more open, clear and direct.
Confidentiality is an essential part of the counselling relationship and everything that is said will be treated with respect and discretion.
